Man and dog rescued from cliffs
Giant's Causeway World Heritage site
The Giant's Causeway area is popular with walkers
A man and his dog have been rescued from cliffs on the north Antrim coast.

The man's dog fell from the cliff face near the Giant's Causeway Centre 100 feet into the sea shortly after midday on Sunday.

He climbed down the cliff to try to rescue the dog but he got stuck on a ledge 60 feet below the cliff top.

The man was winched to safety by members of Portrush Cliff Rescue team.

It was made more difficult by the fact that it happened in an area that wasn't accessible from the road

The Portrush inshore and all weather lifeboats were called out and rescued the dog from the sea.

Christopher Little from the cliff rescue team said it was a difficult operation.

"It was made more difficult by the fact that it happened in an area that wasn't accessible from the road," he said.

"So the rescue was quite difficult and demanding.

"But it was a good team effort between all of those involved.

"I'm glad that the dog seems uninjured and that its owner was returned safely to the top of the cliff."
