| Friday, 21 June, 2002, 19:36 GMT 20:36 UK Two killed in car rally accident Two men have been killed and a third man injured at an international car rally in the Republic of Ireland. The accident happened near Ballybofey during the Donegal International Rally when the men, who are believed to be a marshall and a photographer, were struck. The tragedy happened just before 1400 BST on Friday when the car left the road and struck a crowd of spectators at Cloghan. Irish police said both men killed were 22-years-old.
One is from south Armagh in Northern Ireland and the other is from Inishowen in County Donegal. The third man is in intensive care in Letterkenny General Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. A spokeswoman for the Garda Siochana, confirmed the incident. "A rally car has left the road and collided with a number of spectators at stage two of the Donegal Rally," she said. The remaining stages of the three-day event have been cancelled. |
