Mr Mallon was arrested in Chicago
The Northern Ireland home of a man facing accusations in Chicago of trying to coerce an underage girl into sex over the internet has been searched.

Stan Mallon, 61, was acting chief executive of the Ulster Scots Agency in Northern Ireland and had been a former senior civil servant.

He was arrested at a hotel in Chicago on 8 March by officers from Cook County Sheriff's child exploitation unit and is in police custody in the US city.

He is accused of arranging a meeting at the hotel with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl and of using an internet chatroom to coerce a child into having sex.

The girl was an undercover police officer, it is alleged.

On Friday afternoon, Northern Ireland police assisting the investigation searched Mr Mallon's County Antrim home and removed his computer, videos, and a number of CDs.

The 61-year-old who is married with five grown up children is due to appear in court in Chicago next Monday.

His solicitor has said he will contest the charges.
