Couple unhurt as car crashes into home
The car crashed into a wall outside the house
Two pensioners have escaped uninjured after a serious road traffic accident outside their County Londonderry home.

The police said the driver ran off, but a man was later arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

George and Rosemary O'Doherty had a lucky escape after the crash which was just outside their front door.

A car left the main Derry to Greysteel road and hit a lamp post and then a pillar, demolishing both.

"The door is broken and the window down in the kitchen is broken too," said Rosemary.

"The walls and pillars are all down and the gates have been damaged. It was very frightening, very frightening."

The pensioners were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where they were treated for shock.

"Thank God it wasn't too bad," said George.

"It could have been a lot worse.

"The house could have gone on fire and that was what we were scared of more than anything else."

A passenger who was critically injured is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
