Dance party to ring in Belfast's new year
Belfast City Council
The concert is a joint venture with Belfast City Council
Belfast is gearing up for the biggest party of the year in Northern Ireland as BBC Radio One rings in the new year from the City Hall.

The station's annual New Year's Eve live broadcast is expected to attract over 20,000 revellers to the heart of Belfast as the city ushers in 2002.

Recently voted DJ of the Year Sara Cox will present the show which is free of charge and will be broadcast across the UK and beyond from 2230 GMT on Monday.

Roads about Donegall Square will close from 2030 GMT and Citybus will operate a special service to ferry party goers home between 0030 and 0130 GMT on Tuesday.

Jim Rodgers: " A perfect way to end the year"

The event has been jointly organised with Belfast City Council and the lord mayor, Jim Rodgers, said the concert was a great boost for the city.

"I am excited by it, I am going to be here this evening myself and I am looking forward tremendously to it," he said.

"It should be absolutely fantastic, a wonderful way to end the old year and enter the new year which all of us hope will be a better one than 2001 has been."
