| Friday, 28 September, 2001, 13:02 GMT 14:02 UK Children injured in bus attack ![]() Seven children have been injured in an attack in which a concrete block was thrown at their school bus in north Belfast. The bus, carrying children from Hazelwood Integrated College was attacked on Skegoniel Avenue on Friday morning. The block shattered a window showering glass on the pupils aged between 12 and 16. They were taken to hospital for treatment for cuts, none were seriously injured, said police, and were allowed home later.
Integrated schools are attended by pupils from both the Catholic and Protestant communities. Hazelwood College principal Noreen Campbell said the pupils were traumatised by the attack. "I am horrified that students cannot travel to school safely. I am distressed that they have to experience this," she said. "One of the boys was hit by the brick but thankfully he was not seriously injured." She said some of the students were upset by what had happened, but none had been badly hurt. |
