1. It's the lion in picture 3 - Pride, Team GB's Beijing mascot. Picture 1 is Chester, the mascot of Durham rugby club. Picture 2 is Stamford the Lion, of Chelsea FC. And picture 4 is Roary Royal, of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
2. Beijing 2008 had five mascots, the same number and colours as the Olympic rings. Their names put together - Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni - translated as "Welcome to Beijing". The first official Olympic mascot was Waldi, a colourful dachshund, at the 1972 Munich Games.
3. It was a pig, which he pretended was a deformed ferret named Bacon Sandwich. The Footlights team had a teddy and a bottle of champers. SPOILER ALERT: the short-fused punk tried to blow up his rivals with a WWII era grenade. And Special Patrol Group bit the teddy.
4. Mascoto means "piece of witchcraft, amulet", and is thought to come from the Medieval Latin word masca, meaning witch or spectre. "Mascotte", however, means charm or amulet.
5. It's the lion, World Cup Willie, from 1966. The orange is Naranjito (Spain, 1982); the boys are Tip and Tap (West Germany, 1974); and the dog is Striker (United States, 1994).
