Teenagers get mobile radio studio

A mobile radio studio is being made available to young people in Wiltshire to help them get involved in a local webcast radio station.

Sparkradio was set up in 2006 to tell 13 to 19 year olds about interests and activities going on in the county.

The initiative, between the county council and Interactive Media Centre at Wiltshire College, is now expanding.

A portable studio, based at Grosvenor House, Salisbury, will help more young people get involved in broadcasting.

The initiative also allows young people to learn new skills in radio - from voice preparation to presenting their own show - in a free, one-day workshop.

'Exciting project'

Sparkradio is accessed via a website called Sparksite.

In addition to the portable studio, a new area is being been set up on the site, where users can search for specific activities, speak out on issues which concern them and give ratings and reviews for music gigs and films.

Sparkradio volunteer Ed Smith, said: "I think it's amazing that young people can share their views directly onto Sparksite so that young people's opinions in Wiltshire really count.

"I also think it's great that now young people from all over Wiltshire can get involved in Sparkradio."

Nancy Bryant, Wiltshire County Council's cabinet member for education and youth development, said: "I am delighted we can offer these two new schemes.

"Having the portable radio equipment means more young people from across Wiltshire can get involved in this exciting project."
