The poppy bus will raise awareness ahead of Remembrance Day

The Royal British Legion began the road trip on Monday to promote the poppy appeal, which starts next week, and to recruit poppy sellers.

A convoy including three World War II vehicles, will accompany the bus.

At a top speed of 35mph it will stop in Swindon, Trowbridge, Marlborough, Wooton Bassett, Devizes, Colne, Chippenham and Salisbury.

'A few surprises'

The convoy will also include the legion's motorbike branch.

Charity workers will be greeted by the mayor at each stop, who will receive the first poppy in the town.

Organiser Denis Compton said: "We have got a few surprises set up in each town too."

It has been said that shire horses and planes from RAF Lynam will take part.

The bus tour, which cost �4,500, was funded by a successful lottery bid.
