Crackdown on underage drink sales
Boy in off-licence
Alcohol was sold to a 15-year-old working undercover
Two licensees in Swindon have each been fined 80 for selling alcohol to an underage customer.

A 15-year-old volunteer, working undercover for Trading Standards and Wiltshire Police, was able to buy alcohol without being challenged.

The incidents are being investigated and the sellers could be prosecuted and lose their licences.

Officers have distributed free training CD-ROMs to licensees as part of their crackdown on underage alcohol sales.

Cllr David Wren, Cabinet Member for Local Environment, said: "I hope this drives home the message that underage alcohol sales and the drunken anti-social behaviour it so often causes, will not be tolerated."

Insp Paul Mills, from Wiltshire Police, said: "I hope this campaign will send out a strong message to not only those premises that were targeted, but also other licensees to check, and if necessary, strengthen their sales procedures in relation to the sale of all age-related goods."
