A "dramatic rise" in refuse recycled in part of Wiltshire is being credited to the introduction of alternate weekly collection of waste and recyclables. Kennet District Council said it was "fantastic news" that householders had embraced the black bag and bin and the council's recycling challenge.
"The new system has encouraged residents to think very carefully what can be recycled," a spokesman said.
Recycling for October 2006 was at 42% compared with 24.5% in October 2005.
The spokesman added: "Thanks to the dedication of residents, the amount of waste sent to landfill had constantly declined while recycling collected has gone through the roof."
