Concern at under-age drink sales
Teenagers
Wiltshire Police said the results were disappointing
Wiltshire police have said they are disappointed at the number of stores selling alcohol to minors.

Officers recently asked a 15-year-old girl to buy alcohol at premises in Trowbridge and Warminster. She was able to buy it at three out of four places.

Later, a 15-year-old boy tried to buy alcohol at stores in Calne, Wootton Bassett and Chippenham. He was sold alcohol at three out of five premises.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "The results are very disappointing."

Police said the licensees were given fixed penalty notices of 80. In one case the sale was carried out by an underage person and Trading Standards officers would visit the store.

Jacqui Gallimore, Divisional Police Licensing Officer said: "This type of operation is not just designed to tackle the offence of selling to persons under 18 years of age, it is about trying to prevent what is effectively a drug from getting into the hands of young people."
