Stonehenge is the sole British contender in a global poll to decide the modern world's seven wonders. The ancient stone circle in Wiltshire is among 21 world sites nominated.
Seven winners will be announced on New Year's Day 2007 in the survey organised by the New 7 Wonders Foundation, based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Stonehenge joins the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Moscow's Kremlin in the final list. St Paul's cathedral was unsuccessful.
The seven wonders of the ancient world were listed by Philon of Byzantium in 200BC.
The sites - all in or near the Mediterranean - were essentially a tourist guide for Athenians.
Included was the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
