Residents in Wiltshire and parts of Gloucestershire are to have their say on plans for thousands of new homes. People will be able to discuss the proposals at public consultation events planned for January and February.
The South West Regional Assembly has identified the town as an area for future potential growth because of its transport links and buoyant economy.
A total of 24,000 extra homes could be built in Swindon and its surrounding villages between 2016 and 2026.
The public consultation programme is part of a study being carried out by Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire County Council on behalf of the Assembly.
The study covers the Borough of Swindon, plus parts of Cotswold, Kennet, North Wiltshire and Vale of White Horse Districts.
