Family tribute to 'sociable' man
Leslie Charles Matthews
Mr Matthews was due to attend a family firework party
A life-long football supporter was returning from a match when he died in the Berkshire rail crash, his family has said.

Leslie Charles Matthews, known as Charlie, 72, from Warminster, was one of seven people who died in the crash.

His family has said he will be remembered for "his sense of humour and friendly, sociable personality".

He died in hospital on Sunday with his wife Jean and two children by his side - he leaves four grandchildren.

In a statement, his family thanked the staff at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, for the "sensitive manner in which they cared for Charlie and gave support at this difficult time".

Mr Matthews, a Reading FC season ticket holder, was on his way back to Wiltshire after watching Reading beat Stoke City at the Madejski Stadium.

His wife, Jean and the families of their two children, had been waiting for him to arrive at a family firework party.

Born in Reading in 1931, he married Jean Wilson in 1953 and they lived in Tilehurst, Reading and Cornwall before retiring in Warminster in 1986, making it possible for him to resume active support for Reading FC.
