A one-legged man from Wiltshire began a charity bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats on Sunday. Mike Pope, from Box, lost a leg in a farming accident more than 20 years ago.
He is making the trip to raise 5,000 for the Bradford division of the St John Ambulance, with proceeds going towards a new Crusader vehicle.
Mr Pope says he is confident he is fit enough for the 1000-mile challenge, and should finish it in 17 days.
A bike has been purpose-built for the occasion.
Mr Pope said: "Cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats has never been done by an above-the-knee amputee before.
"I need to cycle an average of 65 miles every day. It will be a gruelling challenge."
Wiltshire explorer David Hempleman-Adams is due to meet Mr Pope at the finish line.
