Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) representatives met with chief executive Alastair Sykes to present a rescue plan for the Staverton plant.

The T&G said Nestle had offered to sell the factory as a going concern and was also considering redundancy payments.

A spokesman said if these options were not acceptable to workers, the union would fight to keep the plant open.

Nestle announced in February that it was to close the chilled dessert factory, with the loss of 150 jobs.
