The Race Equality Council in Swindon has expressed concern over a dinner at the town's football club which will be hosted by Ron Atkinson. Football pundit Mr Atkinson left ITV after making racist comments on-air.
Steve Allsop, from the Race Council, said: "We have expressed our disappointment about the invitation."
Mike Sullivan, from the club said: "I understand he did apologise and it was accepted so as far as we're concerned it's all done and dusted."
The comments from Mr Atkinson were made after a Champions League match.
Swindon Town FC said it has invited him as a guest speaker at the dinner.
"What the individual has said in the past he has said; it's all dead and buried," said Mr Sullivan.
"We're looking at a supporting dinner where people can come along and have an entertaining evening."
