Stourhead is famous for its gardens |
A new exhibition at the National Trust-owned Stourhead house and gardens will feature a newly-discovered painting by the artist, J.M.W.Turner The Art of the Garden will also feature reproductions of work done at Stourhead by Turner and Constable.
Turner's work, The Gothic Cross above the Lake at Stourhead, has never been on public display before, and was recently found in the Tate archives.
The garden at Stourhead was itself designed to resemble a painting.
The exhibition runs through August |
The exhibition aims to explore the relationship between landscape painting and landscape gardens.
The idea is for visitors to compare the work to the gardens as they now stand.
Katharine Boyd, who researched the exhibition, said: "It will be a unique experience for visitors.
"There is something very engaging about seeing the paintings reproduced in the landscape rather than in a gallery."
The exhibition runs from 2 to 30 August.
