People will be invited to fill in a questionnaire about speed
Police and council road safety officers are to canvas the views of the public over the future of the controversial speed camera system in Wiltshire.

The county's safety camera unit has hired a stand at the West Wilts Show in Trowbridge on Thursday, 24 July.

Visitors to the stand will be asked to give their opinion on speed enforcement and safety cameras through a short questionnaire.

Speed enforcement in the West Wiltshire area started in 2002 with further routes now being analysed for enforcement on an on-going basis.

"We are keen to find out what people think about safety cameras and speeding," said Saira Khan of the unit.

"This opinion-gathering questionnaire should give us a good indication of how people in Wiltshire feel about the whole issue of speeding and speed enforcement."

Sgt Nick Blencowe, of Wiltshire police added: "Safety cameras are operating at sites where there is a history of collisions involving death or serious injury or where there is local concern regarding the speed of traffic travelling through that area."
