There are several accident blackspots around Stonehenge |
Plans for Stonehenge's future - including a 2.1 km tunnel to help relieve traffic congestion - are to be published in June. The Highways Agency will set out its improvement scheme for the A303 on 5 June with the aim of improving safety and reducing congestion.
An exhibition of the plans will be open to interested parties between 12 and 15 June at the Antrobus Arms Hotel in Amesbury.
Project manager Chris Jones said: "The A303 carries more than 20,000 vehicles a day through local communities and passes close to one of the world's most important historic sites.
"Despite being a key route - especially in economic terms - it regularly suffers major congestion and accidents.
The publication of the plans marks the start of a statutory three-month consultation period.
