Leeds City Council has carried out a review of child protection cases |
Leeds City Council is to set up an improvement board after concerns were raised in an Ofsted report over its children's services department. The review published earlier this year found the authority's response to child protection referrals did not ensure children were "adequately safeguarded". An improvement board with an independent chair has now been set up. It will monitor the department and report twice a month to the Children's Minster Dawn Primarolo. Inspectors identified some children as having been left "at potential risk of serious harm" in the Ofsted report. The council said it had undertaken a "major review" of cases and additional checks were in place. Ms Primarolo said: "I am pleased the council have agreed to take necessary steps to secure improvements required in children's services through the new improvement board."
