About 375 new jobs could be created in West Yorkshire if a new supermarket receives planning permission. Asda has applied to Leeds City Council for permission to build a new store on St Georges Road and Holme Well Road in Middleton. It has promised to work with the Jobcentre to make sure the potential jobs are given to local residents. A spokesman from Asda said: "The new jobs will give a major boost to the local economy." He added: "We are delighted to be able to offer such a substantial investment in Middleton, at a time when the economy faces so many challenges and household budgets are especially tight." Public consultations are taking place at the St George's Centre in Middleton from Thursday 28 May to Saturday 30 May.
