Supermarket expansion job boost

A Leeds based supermarket chain plans to invest £40m in a new store in West Yorkshire creating 400 jobs.

Asda is due to submit plans for planning permission to Huddersfield's Kirklees Metropolitan Council in June.

The chain wants to build a 49,000 sq ft (14,932 sq m) store and split level car part on the current Broadbent site on Chapel Hill, off Queensway.

A two-day exhibition for the public to view plans before they are submitted will be held at the end of May.

ASDA property communications manager, Philip Bartram said: "During difficult economic times we will work closely with Jobcentre Plus and other agencies to target local job seekers."
