A new teenage cancer unit at a hospital in Leeds has been officially opened by the Duchess of York.

The duchess's daughter Eugenie, 18, will join the visit to the unit at St James's University Hospital, which cares for patients aged 18 to 25.

It has been partly funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which works with the NHS and provides information on cancer.

The duchess has been a patron of the trust since it was founded.

She has opened opened other units in London, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Birmingham and Sheffield.

The duchess and daughter Eugenie will meet staff and patients at the unit.

It is part of the hospital's new 220m cancer centre, which was officially opened by the Princess Royal in July.

The duchess said: "Being a parent to two young girls, this charity has a particular place in my heart and I am delighted to open the new teenage cancer trust unit at St James's Hospital.

"The facilities on offer are just fantastic and will undoubtedly help young people from across Yorkshire through a very difficult time."
