The pool and diving pit offer new training facilities
The new swimming pool and diving centre in Leeds was given a royal seal of approval during the official opening by the Princess Royal on Tuesday.

Princess Anne said many towns and cities were envious of the 16m project which replaced the ageing city site.

Divers gave the princess a glimpse of their abilities during a display from the high boards at the new pool.

The royal visitor said it was an important facility in the build-up to the London Olympic games in 2012.

The princess told the divers, swimmers and civic party: "This is an important added facility for Leeds and for the build up to 2012 [Olympic games] and certainly, from my perspective, that's a huge encouragement.

"And I've no doubt there are lots of people around the country who would like another one just like this."
