A minister has been appointed to represent Yorkshire and the Humber in the government for the first time. Gordon Brown announced on Thursday that former Home Office and health minister Caroline Flint would represent the region.
A total of seven ministers have been appointed to represent various regions across England.
The new regional representatives will work with the areas' MPs to reflect local issues in Parliament.
The other ministers include former agriculture minister Nick Brown, who will represent the North, children's minister Beverley Hughes, who will cover the North West, Ben Bradshaw for the South West and Gillian Merron for the East Midlands.
Liam Byrne will represent the West Midlands, the East of England will be represented by Barbara Follett and the new Olympics minister Tessa Jowell will cover London.
