A five-year programme to improve the state of the roads in Leeds has been announced by the city council. An extra 8m is being pumped into the roads budget for the next year. It will be used to fund the filling in of potholes and to improve surfaces.
Councillors at the Civic Hall say they aim to make the city's roads among the best maintained in England.
Councillor Steve Smith said: "The roads in some parts of our city are in a terrible state."
Mr Smith added: "The extra money will start to make a difference over the next few months and over the next five years hundreds of streets will have repairs carried out."
