The Queen was unaware of the balloons bursting |
Police who arrested two teenagers after the pair apparently burst balloons when The Queen arrived in Wakefield have defended their action. The 17-year-olds were held on suspicion of using threatening behaviour as the royal party attended a Maundy Service.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "This disturbance was created as the Royal party arrived...the origin of the loud bangs was unclear.
"This could have been a firearm" the spokeswoman added.
The Queen was understood to have been unaware of the incident.
Another 11 people were arrested for a range of alleged minor offences during the huge security operation.
