Drivers face more problems on Thursday because of icy roads
Pupils in parts of Yorkshire have got the day off school because of snow.

Schools in parts of Leeds and in the north of the region closed after heavy snow fell during the morning.

Motorists reported traffic chaos across Yorkshire after driving conditions caused gridlock on main routes into and around towns and cities.

BBC weather forecaster Lisa Gallagher said the snow would die away by the evening but temperatures would drop below freezing overnight causing ice.

Police with 4x4 vehicles rescued drivers from the road between Langtoft and Driffield, in East Yorkshire.

The route was closed in both directions after the drivers are stuck in blizzard conditions.

A police car had to be abandoned after getting stuck in the North York Moors and four articulated lorries were trapped at one point on the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough.

Leeds Bradford Airport reported small delays to flights caused by the weather. Snow in Amsterdam caused longer delays to flights heading there.
