A museum dedicated to the history of rugby league is being opened in the place the league was founded in 1895. The basement of the George Hotel in Huddersfield has been re-fitted to house displays which include shirts, caps, medals and photographs. It is the brainchild of sports presenter Mike Stephenson who has donated his personal collection. The museum was officially opened on Tuesday by a group of past and present rugby league players. Mr Stephenson said: "I want this to be a tribute to all those people who in 1895 played their part in the development of what I'm proud to call the greatest game of all. "It will open almost 110 years to the day since that famous meeting took place to create the Northern Football Union, or Rugby League, as we know it today." The museum will be open to the public from Thursday.
