Big Issue sellers will wear orange bibs in the centre of Leeds |
Big Issue sellers in Leeds are now wearing coloured bibs to identify them as legitimate vendors of the popular magazine. The move is part of an effort to prevent bogus vendors cashing in on public support.
The new orange bibs will be worn by all legitimate Big Issue sellers in the city from Monday.
The bibs will display a logo, the hours sellers work and a slogan saying "working not begging."
The move is part of an initiative supported by West Yorkshire Police and Leeds City Council to distinguish between the official vendors and beggars using the magazine fraudulently.
The bibs are also designed to reinforce the message that not all homeless people are beggars and that not all beggars are homeless.
