Houses set for 25m improvements

The improvement scheme will take six years to complete
Council house tenants in west Leeds are to see 25m of improvements to their homes over the next year.

Leeds West Homes, the agency that looks after the area's 12,000 houses, said it will be spending the cash on properties in Pudsey, Bramley, Wortley and Armley.

New windows, central heating systems, kitchens, bathrooms and roofs are among the improvements promised.

The full programme is expected to take six years and tenants have been asked to be patient as the work progresses.

Ambitious programme

Over 18.3m of the money will come from the government after Leeds West Homes was awarded a two star rating and praised for being a "good" organisation by the Audit Commission in an inspection in December last year.

Chairman of Leeds West Homes, Ted Hanley, said: "Tenants are really starting to see the benefits as we invest millions of pounds into their homes.

"This ambitious programme of investment will take around six years to complete, so we would ask those tenants who have not benefited so far, to be patient. Everyone will get their share of the improvements."
