Jane finished the race in just under eight hours

The mother-of-three from Rothwell in Leeds took seven hours 54 minutes to swim, cycle and run the Gatorade Half-Ironman Triathlon in Dorset.

At the finish Mrs Tomlinson said: "I feel exhausted. It's been really hard but I have enjoyed it."

Her husband Mike, 43, said: "I'm just glad she's home safe and well."

It is the second time she has been involved in the event which is a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run.

"I've not had to walk any of the course, I have run it all," she said, following her achievement.

Mrs Tomlinson was cheered on by the crowds which included her husband and son Steven.

"It's just astonishing, as she hadn't done any proper running until two weeks ago," said Mr Tomlinson.

Last year the 40-year-old paediatric radiographer finished in six hours and 28 minutes.

It was the first time anyone with terminal cancer had attempted the event.

Earlier this month she completed the London Triathlon for the third time and in July she took part in the Salford Triathlon alongside her daughters Suzanne, 19, and Rebecca, 16.

This is despite vowing she would not do any more challenges after finishing her epic 36-day bike ride from Rome to Leeds in June.

But at the triathalon at Sherborne Castle, she hinted that she could take part in more events if her health permits.

Mrs Tomlinson has already raised �850,000 for charity.
