It is hoped work will start on the new schools as soon as possible
An agreement has been reached which will mean five new schools will be built in Calderdale.

Officers from Calderdale Council signed the deal under which a private consortium will build, run and maintain the schools for the next 25 years.

The schools to be replaced are Halifax High School, South Halifax High School, Ryburn Valley High, Sowerby Bridge High and Savile Park Primary.

Councillor John Ford, the leader of Calderdale Council, said the 54m deal with the consortium led by Babcok and Brown was the culmination of four years of work under the government's Public Private Partnership scheme.

He added: "The new buildings will provide much better facilities for around 10% of the school population in Calderdale."
