Booze ban likely in public places

The street drinking ban will be enforced by police
Street drinking is to be banned in parts of Leeds that suffer from problems with anti-social behaviour.

Councillors have agreed to "consider favourably" an alcohol ban in public places at the request of community groups.

The Community Involvement Team in Morley, which represents local residents, has already expressed an interest in the scheme.

Before any ban is made, there will be consultation with the public and local police, who will enforce the orders.

Deputy council leader Richard Lewis said: "Where public drunkenness is a problem, we will tackle it.

"People on our streets should not feel intimidated by the behaviour of those who cannot control their drinking."
