Hundreds of female council employees have taken their claims for equal payment to an employment tribunal. Solicitors for the women said their clients, employed in cleaning and care roles, are not paid bonuses which male employees, such as road sweepers, are. Paul Doran, of Stefan Cross Solicitors, representing 900 women, said if the case succeeds the council could face paying out up to £200m. The city council has not yet commented on the tribunal, which began earlier. The case, being heard in Birmingham, is expected to last for six weeks.
