Charges follow rally disturbance

Police said the majority of the arrests were for disorder

Four people have been charged following disturbances at a rally and a counter-protest in Birmingham city centre.

Thirty-four people were arrested on Saturday during a rally against Islamic fundamentalists and a protest by a group campaigning against fascism.

West Midlands Police said the charges related to disorderly behaviour. Twenty-seven of those arrested have been bailed.

Three people have been released with no further action to be taken.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with using threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour and will appear before magistrates in Birmingham on 17 August.

A 21-year-old man was charged with failing to comply with a football banning order and appeared before magistrates on Monday.

A 16-year-old boy was given a final warning for using words or behaviour to cause harassment or distress.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and is due to appear before magistrates on Friday.
