The new plans would expand capacity above 25,000 |
Councillors have voted to defer their decision over plans for a £30m revamp of Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Warwickshire County Cricket Club, which owns the Birmingham ground, has said the plans are necessary in order to keep hosting England internationals. The proposal would include demolishing 12 homes. Eight have already been bought and four home owners have been told by the council they must sell up. A final decision is expected to be made by the government. 'Plan scaled back' Compulsory purchase orders for the four remaining homes were approved in November. The club wants to build a new pavilion and stand and increase the ground's capacity to more than 25,000. There were also plans to build a hotel, office and residential elements as part of the scheme. A spokesman for the city council said further consultation would take place including discussions about the possibility of the plans being scaled back.
