The Duke of Edinburgh has been in the Black Country to officially open two schools in the area.

Prince Philip was in Tipton to visit Summerhill Primary School and the RSA Academy, which has three-hour lessons and five terms.

The academy, sponsored by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, has 1,100 students aged 11 to 18.

Summerhill Primary, which is less than two miles away, cost 7.5m.

It opened following the amalgamation of the former Princes End and Locarno primary schools.

A new 30m building at the academy will be ready in September 2010.
