Boxing course to turn life around
Richie Woodhall
Richie Woodhall hopes one could be a world champion
A former world champion is teaching boxing to young people who are known to police.

The 10-week course by ex-world super middleweight champion Richie Woodhall has started in Witton, Birmingham.

The 14 young men taking part, including some who have come to the notice of police, were recommended by schools and the community.

The project, which is being run twice a week, aims to encourage them to want to achieve something with their lives.

The former boxer said: "They need help, they need direction and I'm going to be committed to it.

"I'm hoping that one of these becomes a world champion. Why not?

"There's the physical part of it but there's more mental about controlling aggression and controlling emotions."

The project has also involved police and is being sponsored by Aston Pride and Birmingham Foundation.
