Campaigners urging the government to back plans to modernise Birmingham's New Street Station are to hand in thousands of signatures at Westminster. The �500m Birmingham Gateway scheme to revamp the site is being supported by Network Rail and other groups.
The delegation going to London includes representatives from the city council, the Birmingham Mail newspaper and BBC WM, who have all backed the campaign.
The plans to transform the railway station were announced in February.
The Birmingham Mail's editor, Steve Dyson, said: "This station is not fit for purpose and the government have got to stop ignoring the fact.
"If the government trigger the investment, that's the first stage in a series of investments that will come from Advantage West Midlands, from private enterprise.
"But first of all we need that rail money from the government.
"If that doesn't happen, then it could all collapse."
Local historian Carl Chinn, who is also part of the delegation, said: "New Street Station is a major entry point for Birmingham.
"It's dreary, dull (and) depressing. It gives a negative image of Birmingham straight away.
"If we as a region do not grasp the need to be part of the transport revolution of the 21st Century, we will continue to lose jobs."
