Workers, union leaders and MPs are expected on the march |
Hundreds of people are expected to march through Birmingham at the weekend to demonstrate against the closure of the HP Sauce factory in the city. Workers from the Aston Cross plant and their families will be joined by union leaders and MPs on the Save our Sauce march on Saturday.
Factory owners Heinz plan to shift production to the Netherlands, with the loss of 125 jobs.
Protesters will assemble in Aston park at 1030 BST and march to the factory.
Deputy general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union Jack Dromey will be at the head of the protest.
"Heinz gave promises to keep production of HP in Birmingham but those commitments are as thin as the sauce's imitations," he said.
"This march is not just about the sauce and the one hundred and twenty five workers whose jobs are at risk, it is about the local community, a prime British brand and keeping manufacturing jobs in the UK."
