Council faces huge tree clean-up
Tornado damage
The council faces a "huge task" to clear felled trees
More than 1,000 trees were blown down or damaged as a result of last week's freak tornado in Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council said Farm Park in Sparkbrook had been stripped almost entirely of its mature trees.

Contractors now face months of work in an effort to deal with uprooted trees in open areas.

Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby said the council faced a "huge task" working with local communities to repair parks and plant new trees.

"We have concentrated on clearing the most dangerous trees, but we have literally months ahead of us clearing up trees in parks, school playing fields and other open areas," he said.
