The Birmingham office has recruited 270 soldiers since April 2005 |
More soldiers are being recruited in the West Midlands than anywhere else in the UK, according to a senior officer. The Army Recruitment office in Birmingham took on 270 new recruits last year and is on target to meet the same number again this year.
According to the head of recruitment for Birmingham, Captain Jim Sweeney, the centre, based in the Pallasades, has recruited 232 people since April.
The Middlesbrough office came second, taking 180 recruits in the same period.
The high figures achieved by the Birmingham office have been put down to links with the local community, having visited 220 schools across Birmingham and Coventry to promote their work.
The Army offers 143 careers from drivers to ammunition technicians, and is looking to recruit 13,000 new recruits nationwide this year.
