The former Bishop for Birmingham, the Rt Rev John Sentamu, will lead 3,000 people in worship at his final service in the city.

Dr Sentamu became the first black Archbishop in the Church of England in a ceremony at York Minster last week.

He will leave Birmingham for the final time on a canal barge on Sunday night following the service at the International Conference Centre (ICC).

The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams will also attend the service.

Dr Sentamu said he had a great affection for the city: "I said then, when I came to this great city I call Middle Earth, that the priority was to engage with every citizen of a place.

"In the end, if you listen to them you can't go wrong."

He added: "I am hoping to continue cooking for people and entertaining them. Priority is at the heart of it and people and longing to feel they belong."
