Off-road police to tackle bikers
Police have created an off-road motorcycling team to tackle what they say is the growing problem of anti-social bikers in Solihull.

Four officers have been issued with Enduro Cycles - off-road bikes for rough terrain pursuit - so they can catch criminals in the act.

It is part of a three-month zero tolerance campaign by the West Midlands force, called Operation Strikeout.

A police spokesperson said bikers were damaging parks and wasteland.

Sgt Richard Breeze, from the road policing unit, said: "Operation Strikeout's remit is to target criminals.

'Untold damage'

"Sometimes the only way of catching these bikers that cause havoc to wasteland and parks is to patrol and monitor the very areas they ride in.

"These riders cause untold damage to property, not to mention the noise and anti-social trouble they cause.

"We will endeavour to prosecute offenders, even seizing their vehicles where necessary."

The team was formed after a number of complaints from people living in Solihull.

Police say that in one case some people who were out walking their dog narrowly avoided being run over by a teenager on a scrambler cycle.
