MG Rover helpline is 'inundated'
Former workers at Jobcentre Plus
A job centre in south Birmingham will open late every evening until Friday
A helpline set up for redundant MG Rover employees has been inundated with calls since it opened a week ago.

Around 3,500 have called the Jobcentre Plus hotline in the past week, a spokeswoman said.

Over the weekend, the Birmingham South West Jobcentre Plus in Northfield opened its doors and phone lines.

From Tuesday, the office will open late in the evenings until Friday to offer advice to former workers concerned about their future.

Regional Director Rosemary Thew said: "They have inevitably been worried and concerned about what the future holds.

"I think it is fair to say that many of them have left the office reassured that Jobcentre Plus is doing its bit to help."

Birmingham South West Jobcentre Plus will be open from 0900 until 2200 BST to ensure a maximum number of people are seen within a week.

Redundant workers will also be told when to attend a centre being set up at Longbridge to give them advice on retraining and job vacancies.
