MPs' views on trams are supported
A call by the Commons Transport Committee to speed up provision of trams has been welcomed.

The MPs' inquiry found that tram schemes in the UK can take up to 15 years to deliver compared to four or five years elsewhere in Europe.

An extension of the Midland Metro tram scheme is currently under way.

Passenger Transport Authority Chairman Gary Clarke says it could mean the UK adopting cheaper, faster construction methods used on mainland Europe.

In the West Midlands, public transport promoter Centro is planning five new tram lines that would put more than half a million people within walking distance of a new Midland Metro stop.
