Refuge for male victims of abuse
A refuge for male victims of domestic violence is to be built between Birmingham and Coventry.

The privately-funded centre will be able to house up to 31 men and have six family rooms which can be used by men escaping violence with their children.

The group, It does Happen, says it is an important step forward for helping male victims in the region.

Legal and benefit experts will be based at the refuge, which costs an estimated 2.4m, and is due to open in July 2005.

The organisation says it intends to provide a safe and confidential place for male victims of domestic abuse.
